Shopify subscriptions, set up so customers stay

We help Shopify stores sell on subscription: choosing the right app, setting up plans and discounts, making subscribe-and-save look right on your product pages, and giving customers a portal they can manage themselves. We also move subscribers between apps and build what no app offers.

What we do for Shopify subscription stores

From a first subscription offer to moving thousands of subscribers.

  • Choosing an app

    An honest recommendation

Shopify's own free Shopify Subscriptions app, or a paid app such as Recharge, Loop, Skio or Appstle. We compare them against how you sell, not against a feature list, and we don't resell any of them.
  • Setup

Subscription plans that make sense to customers

Delivery frequencies, subscribe-and-save discounts, prepaid options, cancellation and skip rules, and the emails customers get before each renewal. Set up once, tested with real orders.
  • Product pages

    Subscribe-and-save on your product pages

A subscription option that fits your theme, shows the saving clearly and works with your variants, rather than an app widget dropped in with its own fonts and colours.
  • Customer portal

A portal customers can manage themselves

Skip, pause, change products or delivery dates and update card details without emailing you, as far as your app allows. Styled to match your store, so it doesn't feel like a different site.
  • Migrations

    Moving subscribers between apps

Subscribers moved from one app to another, or onto Shopify Subscriptions, with renewal dates, prices and saved payment details kept intact. Planned and tested so nobody is charged twice or missed.
  • Custom features

Subscription logic your app doesn't offer

Build-a-box subscriptions, loyalty pricing that improves over time, gifting, or subscriptions tied to your own back office. Built on Shopify's subscription APIs when no app setting does it.

Shopify Subscriptions, Recharge or another app?

Every route runs through Shopify’s own checkout. The difference is how much control you get over plans, the portal and keeping customers subscribed. We’ll tell you which fits before you spend anything.

  • Free, made by Shopify

    Shopify Subscriptions

Auto-billed subscriptions weekly, monthly or yearly, with discounts, and customers can skip, pause or cancel from their customer account. A good fit when your subscription offer is simple and you'd rather not pay another monthly fee.
  • Paid apps

Recharge, Loop, Skio, Appstle and others

More options for bundles, build-a-box, retention offers when customers try to cancel, and analytics. Worth the monthly fee once subscriptions are a large part of your revenue and you want to reduce churn actively.
  • When nothing fits

    Custom features on top

Most stores never need this. When they do, it's usually one specific rule or integration, built alongside the app you already use rather than replacing it.

How a Shopify subscriptions project runs

  1. 1

    Talk through your offer

What you sell on subscription, how often, at what discount, and what's going wrong today. If your current app already does what you need, we'll show you the setting.
  2. 2

    Recommendation and fixed price

A written proposal within three working days: which app, what we'd set up or build, how any migration would run, and a fixed price.
  3. 3

    Set up and test

Plans, product pages and portal set up and tested with real test orders, including renewals, skips, failed payments and cancellations.
  4. 4

    Launch and look after it

Switched on, or subscribers moved across, at a quiet point in your billing cycle, with a close eye on the first renewals.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Shopify Subscriptions app free?
Yes. Shopify Subscriptions is made by Shopify and is free to install. It covers auto-billed subscriptions weekly, monthly or yearly, with percentage, fixed-amount and other discounts, and lets customers skip, pause or cancel from their customer account. Paid apps such as Recharge add more retention and bundling features for a monthly fee.
Should we use Shopify Subscriptions or Recharge?
If your offer is simple, such as one product every month at 10% off, Shopify's free app is often enough. A paid app such as Recharge, Loop or Skio is worth considering when subscriptions are a big share of revenue and you want build-a-box, bundles, cancellation offers or deeper analytics. We don't resell any app, so we'll recommend the one that fits.
How much does it cost to set up Shopify subscriptions?
Setting up a subscription app properly, with plans, discounts, subscribe-and-save on your product pages and a styled customer portal, starts from £1,500. Moving subscribers between apps or building custom subscription features starts from £8,000. Theme support starts from £550 a month. Prices are fixed and agreed in writing, and the app's own fees are paid directly.
Which payment providers work with Shopify subscriptions?
Shopify lists Shopify Payments, PayPal Express, Authorize.net, Adyen and Stripe as supported for subscriptions, with Adyen and Stripe limited to approved merchants. Customers need a payment method that can be charged again later, so some local and manual payment methods won't be available for subscription orders.
Can you move our subscribers from one app to another?
Yes. Shopify Subscriptions can import contracts from another app, and most paid apps have their own migration process. The careful part is saved card details, renewal dates and prices, so we plan the move, test it, and time it so nobody is charged twice or missed.
Do we need Shopify Plus to sell subscriptions?
Not for the basics. Subscriptions run through Shopify's own checkout with a subscription app. Shopify Plus lets you edit some of the subscription wording shown in checkout, but the disclosure itself can't be removed on any plan.
Can subscriptions be sold alongside one-time purchases?
Yes. The same product can be sold as a one-off or on subscription, and customers choose on the product page. We make that choice clear in your theme, with the saving shown and the right price for each variant.
Can we see churn and lifetime value for subscribers?
Subscription apps have their own reports. If you use Recharge, our Ask AI app can also connect to it on the Unlimited plan, so you can ask questions about cancellations and subscriber value alongside your Shopify and marketing data.
